Charlestown

Charlestown, County Mayo 2003

RTE filming of a special programme commemorating the making of the Quiet Man at Ballyglunin.

This train was restored by a voluntary group and operated from 1988 until 1993 during which time Westrail operated services to Ballina, Westport, Galway, Gort and even operated for four consecutive weekends on the Cork to Cobh line. The locomotive is in storage at Tuam Station while the three coaches have unfortunately been vandalised.

Western Corridor at Sixmilebridge south of Ennis

New stretch of track on the Western Corridor at Sixmilebridge south of Ennis. This was in a similar state to the Tuam - Athenry section this time last year. It just shows the power of a political  decision!

Ennis

Ennis May 2003. You can see in the distance the new track almost completing the entire 25mile Limerick -Ennis section. The task will be completed with the renewal of Ennis Station over coming weeks. Where there's a will there is always a way!
