New West on Track signs erected across Region

Press Release - 23rd March 2005

Community activists from the West on Track Community Campaign have erected hundreds of full-colour signs throughout the West and Mid-West region over the past 2 days bearing the legend "Tá an Traein ag Teacht!" and quoting the recent Dáil announcement by An Taoiseach Bertie Ahern, that financial provision has been made by the Government for the re-opening of the Western Rail Corridor.

A spokesman for West on Track said the signs reflected the widespread welcome in the community for the remarks by An Taoiseach and the commitment by the Government to financially support the western rail link.

"These signs have been specifically tailored for all the towns and cities in the region from Carrick on Shannon and Sligo in the north to Ennis and Gort in the south and feature a large illustration of a modern train of the type expected to operate on the new railway," said the spokesman.

"The report of the expert Working Group under the Chairmanship of Mr. Pat McCann, is expected to be presented to Minister Martin Cullen shortly and we are confident that it will provide a dynamic blueprint for the re-opening of this valuable piece of Ireland's national infrastructure," he added.
