The West on Track Community Campaign warmly welcomes the announcement today at Tubbercurry Railway Station, Co. Sligo by Éamon Ó Cuív T.D., Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs of the commencement of Clearing Works for the Western Rail Corridor, north of Claremorris.

The work beginning today between Collooney Co. Sligo and Claremorris, Co. Mayo will involve bridge and track clearance, fencing, drainage and restoration of level crossings and will be carried out by Iarnród Éireann as part of the Transport 21 programme.

Commending the Minister for his contribution towards this particular part of the project, a spokesman for West on Track said that the clearance work is a welcome indication that the Government is intent on pressing ahead with the WRC project.

He also commended Iarnród Éireann for the professional and speedy manner in which it was progressing the project.
