Official Visit to the Western Rail Corridor by Minister for Transport Séamus Brennan on Friday 13th Feb 2004

Statement and Timetable

The Minister for Transport Mr. Séamus Brennan T.D. will pay an official visit to five stations on the Western Rail Corridor on Friday 13th February 2003. The tour will take in stations in counties Sligo, Mayo and Galway and the Minister is expected to make a significant announcement in Kiltimagh about the future of the western railway.

While in Kiltimagh Minister Brennan will also launch the major new study of the WRC commissioned by West on Track which will show the enormous potential of the railway.

The West on Track community campaign is calling on all citizens who are free on the day of the visit to travel to one or more of the venues to give clear expression to the unanimous desire of the people of the West for the re-opening of their railway. A further statement will issue early next week.

Itinerary

The following is the itinerary for the Minister's tour of the WRC. He is likely to be accompanied by Minister Ó Cuív.

09.00 am Arrive Sligo Aiport
09.20 am Dep Sligo Aiport (Attend unrelated meeting in Sligo).

10.10 Arr Tubbercurry Station. Meet Chamber of Commerce reps, local representatives and community. View buildings and line. (20 mins)
10.30 Dep Tubbercurry

Journey time: 15 mins.

10.50 Arr Charlestown (Attend unrelated meeting 11.05-11.45)
11.50 Arr Charlestown Station. Meet Development Association, local representatives and community. View buildings and line. (20 mins)
12.10 Dep Charlestown

Journey time: 5 mins.

12.20 Arr Knock Airport. Meet Airport Board with Minister Ó Cuív.
13.20 Dep Knock Airport

Journey time: 15 mins.

13.30 Arr Kiltimagh Station. Welcome by Kiltimagh I.R.D., local representatives and community. Briefly view station and Railway Museum and launch Report on the WRC.
14.00 Interviews: RTÉ 1, TG4, TV3, Mid-West Radio, RnaG and local papers.
14.25 Town Hall - Cross to hall for keynote address to representatives of media, Western Development Commission, BMW assembly, Council for the West, Community Fora, Western County Councils, County Development Boards, Knock Airport, IBEC, business people and elected representatives.
14.55 Dep Kiltimagh
